Have you ever received a gift that you absolutely hated? Or maybe you've given one, only to find out later that the recipient waited a decent interval before donating it to the nearest charity shop.

YES! Every single Christmas my family asks me for a list of things I want. I write things like gift certificates for Home Depot because I like working on my house. Every year I get foo-foo junk from home decorating stores instead...things like chenille blankets that I won't use. If I WANTED chenille blankets I would have ASKED for chenille blankets.

Sheesh.

Just to be safe, I pretty much just give everyone books, and so far I haven't run into a single case of someone for whom I can't find just about the perfect book gift. (Well. That's my claim, and I'm sticking to it.) But probably this is just because I always want books myself.

However, I did have an interesting romantic gift from my husband recently.

uh... i remember giving everyone in my family bibles for Christmas one year, when i was a religious teenager. To their collective look of repugnance, i reminded them that it was, after all, a religious holiday!

Ah, but they got me back the next year...

never mind, i'll leave it to your imagination.

Hey Kathy, I know of a very good home for unwanted chenille blankets! Not so sure about the foo-foo junk though ;-0))
